Re: ox locker

It's pretty easy to break Dana 44 axle shafts with an open differential and a ragged out 350 with those tires.

Even with CTM shafts you'll smoke Spicer 760Xs. I'm willing to bet in the case of the Dana 44 the Oxlocker won't ever be the weak point.

Re: ox locker

you guys think its funny I know but the truck w/
the d44 is a mudd bog only truck
I have built the axle as well as you can a 1/2 ton
and DO NOT have problems going in a straight line
and yes I put lots of horsepower to the axle

Re: ox locker

That truck breaks stock shafts all the time. It's on 40s with an open front. It had a tired 350 hooked to a SM465 that fed the axles through a Rockwell T221. If the shaft doesn't break the Spicer joints fall apart (caps come off) or break. The funny part is that it usually goes when he's got the steering wheel turned just a little and not really on the throttle.

Stock Dana 44 axles are only good for about 3,000 ftlbs of torque. It's easy to hit that with deep gears. CTM shafts are good for more than twice that but the Spicer joints become the weak link. If you run aftermarket universals you run the risk of ruining the $350 front axle shafts.
