Hi I\'m a noob lookin for conversion advice

As I posted in the GM IFS forum, I have a '79 1/2 ton that I'm thinking about converting to a 4x4. Since what I eventually wanna do is get it lifted 8" and put some mudders on it, should I be thinking about going with a solid axle? I don't wanna mess around with 1/2 shafts and have them break just coming out of a ditch somewhere.

What needs to be considered in converting a 2wd to 4? Is it worth my time? Do I need to do a lot of custom fabrication to put a solid axle and transfer case in?

Like what willy said in the IFS forum, you would be better off swapping the body over or selling it to get a 4wd. Where are you located?? I know where there are alot of 4wd rolling frames.
