body swap

Just got my password and and am stoked to be able to post!
I have a 75 GMC 3/4 ton 4X4 pickup with 8' bed and the usual 70's hardware- 350/350, 44 front,14bolt corp.rear,
and 203 transfer case. Now that there is more in my family than there use to be, would like to make it a little more able to carry more occupants than the standart cab would, but keep the wheel base the same. I thought about swapping the running gear underneath of a blazer. Also thought about swapping a crewcab onto my frame (the cab on it now is not the best anyway) and making up the difference of the bed with a custom flatbed. Has anybody ever tried this or have any pics of this or something similar. I went to my favorite local junk yard and took some measurements and it looked like the crewcab would fit on the frame with the back of the crewcab sitting just before where the frame raises up for the rearend. Any response is appreciated.

Re: body swap

You can put a crew cab body on a regular frame. There is one around here like that, but 2wd. Didn't look at it closely, but he had to cut and modify the cab corners to clear the tires. Since this is 4wd, then you might be able to get away with it. Bout the only other thing is relocating the cab mounts.

Re: body swap

I know a guy up here who made his own crewcab shortbox. He cut down a crewcab longbox frame and swapped his drivetrain over from his reg cab longbox. The hardest part he said was finding a good shortbox to put on it but if you want a flatdeck then start buildin'.
