Most lock smiths can hook you up with a key for cheap....might wana call one(durring regular buisness hours not on the weekend and say that you will pay cash ) It might be cheaper than a new tumbler.

And I am not sure on 69 69 they had the key in the colum on cars(I believe 68 was was the last year for cars to have it in the colum....or maybe 67..) Any rate 69's had the keys in the colum on cars.....but there is a big difference on how to yank a tumbler for a colum as apossed to in the dash.

So what do you got?

on this truc its right in the dash. I heard you can take the entire ignition out and that makes it easier to change the lock but we cant even get it out.

Re: question about ignition in 69 c10

Isnt there a bezel looking thing on the front? I believe you can unscrew that and it will come out the back. I *think* thats the way it was on my 62.....

The whole thing is a unit though. Everything from were the wires go in to the part the key turns. Gotta change it all.

Whats a lock smith going to charge you?

In the mean time if its in the dash then it shouldnt have a steering wheel lock right?(the key can be out and the steering wheel will still turn right?) So in a pinch you can stick a switch for the ign wire and a momentary switch on the starter and "hot wire" the thing so you can drive it. Also strangly enough some times you can go to the dealer with the vin and such(or the key code, no idea were it would be on a 69) and they can give you a key(just like a lock smith should be able to do)

Anytime I get fuzzy about stuff I will try looking at the books at parts america or what ever. Its kinda like going to the library if you dont want to buy the actual manual.

Sorry I'm not much help......I cant remember how the heck I took apart my ign when I had my 62
