Chevy 5.0

Let's try this here.
I've got a 84 5.0 chevy carbed engine w/ 400-turbo trans.. I'm picking up an 87 5.0 EFI, REAL CHEAP.
Just needs valve seals. Runs perfect. Only 124k.
My question is the 87 engine is a 1 piece rear main seal and the 84 is a 2 piece.
What will, if anything will I run into for problem's changing out to the 87?
I'm going to put the carbed intake, dist., etc. on it but my main concern is the rear seal difference.
The 87 has got the flywheel on it.
Thank's for all info and help.

Re: Chevy 5.0

Intake and head change when they went to fool-injection. A carbureted intake will bolt on though. Centerbolt heads are a dead giveaway.

You'll need a flywheel or a flexplate for a one piece rear main seal motor.

Other than that, just the fuel pump boss isn't punched out on the fool-injection motor and the cam won't have a lobe for the fuel pump.

I picked up an 87 2wd with a 305 in it for $125. The transmission is toast. The motor smokes a little but other than that is good. Fool-injection did a real good job of prolonging the life of those motors.

Re: Chevy 5.0

It's got the flywheel with it but didn't think of the fuel pump bit. I'd have to go electric with a regulator. Oh Well.
I'm picking it up anyway's. Can't bet the price of $25.00 and a 1/2 hr. ride to get it.
Thank-you very much for the info.
