I just put the superlift 6 " suspension lift on my k-5 and installed the new motor and everthing was working fine until i broke a u-joint. I replaced the joint and now the drivehsaft is too short i guess b/c of the beefier joints. Anyways my buddy is a mechanic and he says he can extend the driveshaft, should i have him do this or should i just order a new custom shaft from somewhere??? any tips??
If he doesn't have experience with driveshafts, I wouldn't let yours be his first. It would have to be cut, new metal welded in, and balanced.
I would either order a custom one, or take it to a driveline shop and get it done right.
For a 6" lift you need a longer shaft. Take it to a good shaft shop and they will re-tube it, adding the required length. Different joints do not effect driveshaft length.
You might need to look and see if your shaft can handle the new angles with the lift. It may be that you will have to look at a slightly different design, that is with a CV joint.
Good luck,
Jim
