serial no. check

I,m normally hang out on the Jeep site but a friend of mine that has a chevy truck asked me if I could cross reference a engine serial the year. Does anyone know where I could find this info?

Mortec has all the casting numbers. But most just give a general year range, not a particular year the block was made.
