I am trying to remove the axle tubes, and i am not sure what I need to use to cut through the "RESSET" welds??

Re: How to get axle tubes loose?

Well, all GM ones that I'm aware of are pressed into the case and then the holes in the case were filled with weld.

I've seen them taken apart many ways. I'd be surprised if you couldn't get them out by just torching the holes filled with weld if you couldn't just drill them out. I'm not that great with a torch so I would let my Dad do it so I didn't melt the case. I'd stick with the drill though because I'm chicken.

If that doesn't work then I'd probably cut the tubes off 3" or so from the case. I'd then heat up the tube so it was glowing and then crush it with a press so then it folded on itself. The monster tubes on a 14FF or Dana 60/70 would be hard to get out this way though.

Re: How to get axle tubes loose?

Here is how I did it. Installed it in the back of my mud dragger. Used 565 ci with nitrous. Add scoops on back. Tubes come loose and pinion points straight up removing driveshaft as an added bonus.
You can use a cheaper way, but I doubt if it will be as fun.
