Re: 8.2 cadi swap

New motor mounts and a tranny case with a caddy bell housing to start with. Find a guy on here called "bigbadcaddy". He has done it.

Re: 8.2 cadi swap

Yeah, you'll need a BOP tranny or an adaptor and possibly mounts, etc as explained. Bad thing about the Caddy motor is the lack of hotrod parts, if you really need much with a 500 though.

Re: 8.2 cadi swap

350hp and nearly 500ft/lbs bone stock with a Quadrajet, there isn't much you need to do. Edelbrock makes a Performer (maybe Performer RPM, can't remember) intake for it, MSD has a Pro Billet Distributor, and headers can be gotten without having to build them from scratch. You can have a powerhouse of a motor without doing much or spending a whole lot on it. Not the mention stock, the 500 weighs 60lbs more than a 350 Chevy.

Re: 8.2 cadi swap

You are telling me that that 350 engine weighs over 600lbs? That 500 was a pain in the arse to get out of the bed of my truck and onto the ground with 4 people. It weighs well over 700lbs.

Re: 8.2 cadi swap

your numbers are incorrect if you are talking about the first 500's (68-70) they had 400 hp and 500 ft lbs 472's had 375/450 ..... i did the swap i took a th 350 frrom an olds and put my 4x4 output shaft in it then i paid $50 for an adaptor "kit" from cmd (caddilac motorsports developement) it turned out to be two stock caddy motor mounts and two 4" x 6" plates of 3/8" steel with no holes..... make your own.... I welded them to the mount plates on the crossmember but you can bolt them ... my 3/4 ton long bed with 4:10 gears would spin all four through 1st into 2nd on dry pavement with the motor completely stock

Re: 8.2 cadi swap

desertrat and gottagofast, I'm just going by the numbers Hot Rod gave me. Several times they referred to the 500 not weighing very much more than a SBC, and 60lbs REALLY sticks in my head.

According to that site, the weights should be within 50 lbs of each other! WOW, i now know what I'm going to put in the 'ultimate mudder' if i ever get a chance to build it.
