I just saw one for sale today and it looks to be in pretty decent shape considering its year, better than the 88 K5. I figure it probably has a np203 in it maybe a 12 bolt and dana 44? The axles are 8 lug. Also the truck probably has a 350 right? Also what trans would it have, its a manual. Like I said the truck was in nice shape and said make an offer, the only problem is it has a plow on it, although the brackets and plow look new so it may have not been on long. Thanks for any info, also is it worth getting something this old? I think the body style looks awesome and it would probably be emissions exempt.
'71 has TH350/NP205, or SM465/NP205.
Front axle is an open knuckle, external hub, disc brake Dana 44.
Rear axle is either a Dana 60 full-floater or an Eaton full-floater, both were available, but most GMCs seem to have the Dana 60.
Engine could be 250 or 292 straight six, 307 or 350 V-8. I think the 305 and 351 GMC V-6s were still available also.
So what do you think its worth? The body is inpretty good condition with hardly any rust except for on the rockers. Also the drivers rear corner is a little rusty and dented but not bad. Its also got a brand new western unimount plow on it. The sign on it says make an offer, and the interior of its pretty clean and matches the outside color blue. what do you guys think its worth, or what should I offer?
Sorry about the rear diff mistake, I was thinking about my 73. Just look at the cover. If it looks like an overgrown 44, its a 60. Dana also usually marks the diffs with a number cast somewhere in the center section, like 44 60 70 80,and name and logo on the tubes. Also may be a tag on rear cover with ratio.
