Bolt patterns

A guy at NTW told me that Chevy/GMC has a 6 X 5.5 bolt pattern. Isn't this for a 6 bolt wheel? Wouldn't a Chevy bolt pattern for a 5 lug wheel be 5 X 5.5?

Re: Bolt patterns

All 6 lug GMs are 6 on 5.5". There are different 5 lug patterns depending on application.

Re: Bolt patterns

Chevy truck 5 lug patterns are 5 on 5". Ford and Dodge use 5 on 5.5". Dodge used a terrible 5 on 4.75" for a while in the late 70's. 6 lug is usually 6 on 5.5" and eight lug is 8 on 6.5", and Ford had to screw things up and come out with 8 on 170mm bolt pattern.

Re: Bolt patterns

Wow. I really screwed my thinking up. I just bought the truck. I was SURE it was 5 lug. It's 6. Duh. It's been at the body shop for a couple of weeks.

I thought I was supposed to measure from the back of one hole to the center of the opposite hole like on 4 and 5 bolt wheels. Why is 6 bolt measured differently? Center to center?
