TBI coolant passage
454 tbi motor is the specific one in question. What is the purpose of the coolant passage throught the base of the TBI on this motor? I am thinking it is to increase the temp at this point, but would this keep things cooler once the manifold is at operating temp? What temp is a manifold typically at without the heater hose running through the TBI base. My factory setup started leaking and the base was corroded. As a temp fix I bypassed this and the truck seemed to run fine. Now I am adding the Edelbrock TBI big block manifold to rebuilt motor and it has the same hookup.Seems like cool air through this portion would do more than hot coolant? It's not like it lowers combustion temp, only manifold temp and I can't think of anything effected by that. Any thoughts on this?
