what do i buy?

alright i have a question about a recovery option, ok now do i buy a nice recovery strap to replace the one that i made from a tie down, or do i buy the warn clevis shackle attachment for my recever, i have a pin, if i buy the strap i can just shove it in the recever and shove the pin in to lock it in there, and if i buy a strap, what brand strap should i buy, and does everybody approve of the strap\pin recovery option?

Re: what do i buy?

i see no problem with it, and that's what i do. i would only do it with a 3" strap because the woven loops are perfectly sized to pull across the whole pin (narrower than the strap itself). a 2" or less will pull more toward the middle which of course could be bad. i dunno what would happen with a 4" strap but you'd have a time getting it in there. forget the shackle, get a KEEPER strap or some other brand that says it stretches a good bit and go have some fun

Re: what do i buy?

I forget what kind of strap I have, big yellow one about 2-4" wide with like a 40k rating on it. Serves my needs, especially since the current 4x4 is half the size and weight of the last one. The pin and strap method is a decent method without any real negatives. Pulling at angles will put minor wear on it, and if done enough times and long enough, will make the strap unserviceable, but long before that happens I hope you'd have saved up enough money for the Warn Class III hitch D-ring dohickey. Heck, I have one and mine was $40 NEW. Now if I can just get a vehicle with a trailer hitch to use it with.
