Re: gear ratios???

Over the years K10's have been available with 2.73, 3.07, 3.42 and 3.73 ratios. The majority will probably have a 3.07 ratio and then the 3.42's became a more popular at the end of the body style in the 88 - 91 Blazers and Subs.

The 14 bolt SF could also have a wide variety of ratios from 3.42, 3.73 and 4.10, I think 3.42 and 3.73 were the most popular with them.

Re: gear ratios???

Check your glove box codes. The way your truck sounds I doubt anyone has swapped the gears.

Re: gear ratios???

nvrenuf hit it right there .. there are all manner of possible ratios. If you are not sure what it is then your best bet will be to pull the cover and look for the #'s stamped into the ring gear. Post the #'s here and someone wil be able to decode them for you. Most importantly you'll be able to check out the gears and do some easy (and probably needed) maintenance.

Re: gear ratios???

on the ring gear are a set of numbers. Generally the last 2 set of the devide the first by the second and that will tell you. 41 10 would be 4.10:1 gears.

Re: gear ratios???

Another way to do it is to jack the vehicle up so that both tires are off of the ground. Have an assistant turn the drive tire 1 full turn. Count the number of times the pinion rotates. 3.42 would be 3 and almost a half turns of the pinion. 4.10 would be 4 turns and a little bit. Might take a couple of tries but it does work. And is the easiest way to do it without removing the cover.
