a buddy of mine bought a '80 chevy shortbox 4x4 the other day for $400 but nneds a motor. He works at a mechanic shot so can get a long block for cost $$. The 4 bolt 350 will run him about $750 and the 400 with cost about $850 +/-. His concern is he wants plenty of power but doesn't want bad gas mileage. He is afraid if he gets a 350 he will kick himself later for not getting a 400 but if he gets a 400 would he be upset because of bad fuel mileage. I suggested 383 and then have teh best of both worlds but that isn't an option from that supplier unless we build it. He plans on putting headers and exhaust and ian intake and edelbroke carb on it and possibly some 441 heads. Any suggestions? Thanks
I've had both 350' and 400's the gas mileage wasn't that much differant from one to the other. And both lasted me well 275,000 miles on the 400 when I sold the truck, and nearly 300,000 miles on the 350 when I sold that truck.
