Running with no exhaust....

Ok guys and gals, I really want to start my truck up since it's been sitting for a month now. But, it only has manifolds on, not pipes after the flange. No cats, no nothing. So, if I start it up, other than being loud, will it hurt anything? Or should I just wait till I get back in town a week from this coming saturday when my pipes will be here from summit and I can hook it all up? I wouldn't think it would hurt anything running without the o2 sensors would it?

<font color=green>Hmmm, just the stubby little manifolds? It would probably be OK if you didn't rev it up or anything, it would certainly be interesting to watch the computer go beserk and figure out what's wrong...

I don't know about manifolds but we've done it with shorty headers.

Re: Running with no exhaust....

I'm just starting it to get the fluids agitated and prevent some sludge. Not going to drive it anywhere. I ordered a bunch of s-bends and j bends from hooker to fab up my own pipes from manifolds to cats. I also ordered a Flowmaster 50 series big block II muffler, dual 3" inlet single 3.5" outlet and ordered a 3.5" tail pipe kit.

Hmmmmm.................this in the Crew Cab? Doesn't OBD-II have a bunch of o2 sensors down there in the tubes? Might just give the computer a hissy and make it run like crap.

So what's the status on it? What are we waiting on?

Re: Running with no exhaust....

Yeah, thats what I'm asking, what will the computer do? Throw a fit and pack it's transistors and move out? I'm waiting on ORD. My draglink, zero rates, and u-bolts are still on order from them and last time we talked, he was building the drag link on tuesday and should have shipped this week, a month after ordering. Anyway, yeah, thats what I'm waiting on, that and brake lines, but there a quick and easy thing.

Re: Running with no exhaust....

I ran mine...but I cut after the o2 sensors before the cats...drove around the block a couple times, and to the exhaust shop...ran great...no dash lights came on or anything....had no low end though...and loud as he||...its a tight squeese on mine had to shorten and bend the pipe right out of the manifolds...turned out good though...Now I just wish I had about 3000$ laying around for the new transfer case....damn always something

Re: Running with no exhaust....

You could unhook the coil so that it won't start and crank it with the starter...
