points ignition

what years were chevy trucks points type ignition? how hard is it to change to electronic? is it worth it?

It started in 1975 but I think you could still get points for a few more years.

Difficulty: easy. Just swap a HEI distributor in. It's best to find one that doesn't have provisions for a brainbox for spark knock. My parted-out 77 was like this. Soon that distributor is going in my truck.

If you don't mind adjusting every 10,000 miles why bother. My Dad actually prefers them. It's a ten minute job for him. Certain points system had everything on one piece of metal so that made changing points quick and easy. He showed me that "back in the day" they used to have special distributor caps to make it even easier.
