painted my truck, now looking for chip strips

I painted my truck and now I'm looking for those chip strips. They're those pieces of take that GM sticks on the leading edge of things like wheelwells and the front of boxes. Does anyone know where I can find these? I have some 3M chipguard stuff you spray on but I don't want to put that on.

Anyway, I took some pictures. Someone asked me for a picture of my installed Jensen MP3510. I don't remember who.

When I bought my truck last fall:

How real auto body specialists paint their vehicles (haha, I know, I'm a wannabe):

Truck looks good man, although in this picture you can't really see it. You caught a lot of grass before any truck

Yeah, I'll pick a day when the sun is being friendly and take it somewhere where I don't have yellow houses, white houses, or shade around to fsck up my $19.99 digital camera. As it is this is the only one of four that didn't turn out blurry or underexposed.

Don't you think my grass is pretty? I meant to do that. Really I did. /me smiles and nods.

im not sure what you mean by chip strips, but if you mean the trim that runs on the side, LMC has it for cheap.

Re: painted my truck, now looking for chip strips

You're talking about the moulding that goes down the side? The Scottsdale stuff is black in the middle and chrome on the top and bottom and the Silverado stuff which is chrome on top and black on the bottom?

I'm talking about this soft sticker stuff. You can find it on your truck in front of the rear wheel openings down next to the ground. They did this on these trucks because this was the first spot to rust out on them because of stone chips.

On the 88-98 trucks they usually put it behind the rear tire on the lip and on the leading edge of the box next to the cab. Once in a while they put it on the edge by the cab corner on the door side. I think they now just use Scotchgard on everything.

More crappy pictures

I went to Boston Pond last night to see how the fishing was and took some pictures of my truck in the sun. That was a Bad Idea (TM). I'd have gotten closer but I'd probably be run over by all the freaking kids in their ricers and Cavaliers. I forgot that it was a hangout on Friday nights.

It's supposed to be cloudy today. And Saturday nights they hang out at the pizza places and Subway.

"I ain't never claimed to be no photographer anyway."

Re: More crappy pictures

Ever thought of some do-it yourself bed liner like Herculiner? Buy a can, do the inside of your bed, and then put some down there on the bed corners. Be mutch more durable than those plastic thingies and would last pretty much forever. Get the UV protectant stuff and it'd stay nice and black as well.

Re: More crappy pictures

When I'm no longer poor I'm either going to Herculiner or Rhinoline my truck bed. However, I can't see how it'd look good on sheetmetal. I'm going for the "perfessional" look and I think Herculiner on the side of my truck would either look like someone got overzealous with rustproofing or I'd been down a road with a wee bit too much tar. I can't find the stuff anywhere so chances are when I go home I'll spray it with some scotchgard.

Re: More crappy pictures

Eh, it all depends on how you do it. I've seen some Herculiner jobs that looked like crap, and others that rivaled the super expensive Line-X and Rhino Liner jobs. Just take some masking tape, make the shape you want protected, and roll a little on.

It's not for everyone, but I prefer function before form.

Re: More crappy pictures

I like function that has form. My truck already sticks out like a sore thumb because it's not a rustbucket. I don't need the poh-lease being able to remember me any easier. I, honestly, don't like it when people butcher daily drivers by sticking bedliner on the side of their vehicles or turning fenders into a sawzall testing ground.

A guy had a locked Dana 60/14FF (that he showed the receipts to me for $5800) with NP205/SM465 that he was going to sell me for $1800. The only reason I didn't buy it was because it was lifted 6" and he took a sawzall to the fenders.
