axles

I need to get alot of info on axles, I mean alot.

I need to be able to indentify the d60 that will work best for swapping under my truck.
there must be something stamped on them, a friends dodge has 44-8f stamped on his 3/4 and the rear on his truck has no indetifaction marks, Im guessing its a d70
the 14b ff axle are easy, I think I got mine picked out, one out of a 82 chevy.
but now Im considering a d70. to match the front d60.

any info or sites with info would be greatly appreciated.

thankx
Evan

Re: axles

I guess my question is.........why would you WANT something heavier than a 14-bolt full floater? Have you ever seen the INSIDES of a 14-bolt? That is A LOT of axle. And besides.....using a very heavy one ton rear axle will pump up your UNSPRUNG WEIGHT and make your pickup crazy on the highway.

Re: axles

yeah your right and wrong, the d70 is marginaly larger, well as far as ring gear is concerned the 14 ff is 10.5 while the d70 is 10.54 or something like that, thats what I learned last night.

Im goin going to stick with the 14ff I have picked out and will be dragging it home and possible a d60 id I can decide what I want. hopefully Ill have them both home today or tomorrow.

uggggggh there are way toma y 60s out there, I realy feel like a kid in a candy store.

I found tons of info on rear axles but very little on the fronts, wich is what I need most.

thankx for your responses, CJDave & General Payne

Re: axles

What do you need to know? Spring perch widths? Years? How to identify?

Re: axles

Jason

jott down any and everything you think I might want to know about finding an axle, though from what Ive learned so far, I do have the king pin style d side dif d60 with I think I hope whatever spring pad width will work best, you say 32.5 is best, but I can build whatever spring pads I need, soooo thats not to big a deal.. also If I told you how I much Im getting these two axles for youd probably fall over. so I wont, this puts me right in game for swap to be,

Im going to get the axles and do the rear first, wont be lifting. just gearing if needed, if the axles have 4.10s Ill go with that, but if theyve got 342-373s then Ill need to regear, to 456. plus put all new bushings seals and bearing in that I can afford. or save up for, ill also have them sand blasted and painted. not sure if Ill paint them or have someone do it. I also thought about haveing linex or rhino lining sprayed on them, but I figured that would hold alot of heat in.

sorry looks like Im long winded tonight.

Re: axles

90 bucks? I don't care what you paid. I got my axles for the willys cheap and I will have to rebuild them like you. But I didn't want to go that route with the truck.

Oh, and for axles:

--32.5" spring pad width is the "79" style
--36.5" spring pad width is later style and tires over 38" hit springs
--Hi-pinon is better for driveshaft angles and the diff. is a stronger casting than other style
--Kingpin style is better than ball joint style and "79" styles are kingpin.
--Make sure it's from a single rear wheel pickup
--Make sure it's not from a dodge.

Re: axles

why not from dodge, because there the vacumn operated engagement deal on the drivers side axle tube

Im pretty sure its a singe rear wheel truck,??????? wasnt lookn to much at that though. its not dodge, though I wouldnt mind d70.
hmmmmmmmmm I need to get out there and do some measureing
yeah price doesnt matter.since itsl lookn like I may have close to 2 grand wraped up in these axles if I realy wanted

Ill get back out there and see whats up
thankx
