k&n airfilter+ diesel

Howdy All,

I have a quick question for you who have 6.2L diesels.
I have an 89 Jimmy 6.2L and I just changed out my old paper air filter and I've noticed that my engine makes more noise now (like a growling from the air filter box when accelerating and not under load) but when on idle it sound exactly the same as it did with a paper filter. One thing for sure it makes less smoke now on initial start up and all around. Can the noise just be the added cfm's going in the engine? Has this happened to anybody here??? Please let me know. Thanks in advance

Re: k&n airfilter+ diesel

Yes, OEM air filters are designed to help with noise suppression in the induction system. It is normal for you to get more noise with the K&N.
