Got swingaway???

It occurred to me recently that I've never noticed a Chevy or Dodge with a swingaway tire carrier like a Bronco. Did they ever have them on a full-size SUV?

Re: Got swingaway???

Can't help you on the Dode Ramcharger/Plymout Trailduster's, but on the fullsize Chevy Blazer/GMC Jimmy's it was a VERY rare option in the mid to late 70's. One of those dealer items you had to specifically order. A couple of the guys on www.ColoradoK5.com have them.

Rare

Sounds like sliding side windows on '78-84 Broncos! About half the old FS Blazers/Jimmys I see have them, but those are the only years of Bronco that had the option, and VERY few Broncos were built with them. '78-9 are slightly more common than '80-4, but they aren't interchangeable.

Re: Rare

Steve, it also sounds like the factory roof rack my buddy has on his 1991 Bronco with the Eddie Bauer package. It's integrated into the removeable top. Between the two of us in the 2 and some years since he has had it, and several states apart, we've seen 1 other Bronco with it. Not that it makes it any more valuable or anything........

Re: Rare

no sh!t? pics please! it might be worth more than you think, steve looked high and low for those sliders and somebody might be doing the same for a factory rack... who knows. that sounds like something for a "rare options" page on havack's site... along with sliders and the overhead console. btw steve, did you do something to your sig pic? it looks "nicer" somehow....?

Re: Rare

Muddy, sorry man, been away. Only picture I have that shows the rack is this one. You can sorta see it.

This is the picture from when I had to drag his Bronco 5 miles out of an off road area...........backwards. Becuase Ford didn't waterproof the relays and fuses.............

Did your friend buy his truck new with that roof rack, or does he just assume it's original? I've seen one of those recently, but I don't think it's factory. Very little else on this truck is original. It's an '80, but it has an '82-86 grille, an '87-91 steering wheel, '86 EB seats, '84-86 rear bumper, & aftermarket rims, hub locks, steps, and grab handles.

No, he didn't buy it new, but yes, the rack came with it from the factory. The build sheet was in the glove box when he got it, and it lists it.
