Shackle Flip Squeaks!!!

I finally got the shackle flip installed on my 99 Burban. Hey the rear is a solid axle. That's why I'm posting here. But reading ORD's two installs one on this site the other from COK5 it says to install open side to the rear. Looking at the picture on ORD's page it almost looks the other way.

It is squeaking real bad. It sounds like metal to metal. Anybody ever come across this? Got any suggestions?

Thanks, Ryan

Re: Shackle Flip Squeaks!!!

I have ORD's greasable bushings in the shackle but I did not do anything with the bushings in the spring. It looks and sounds as if the metal of the shackle is rubbing against the metal of the spring's eye. I thought maybe instead installing it with the open side facing the rear why not the front would this give more room or same ole same ole? Or taking a grinder to it. I think I could grind very little off and make it less squeakable?

So your saying you are getting the same squeak?

Laters, Ryan

Try posting over on CK5's off road design board and see what they say. I'm interested in this also since I'm installing mine in a week or so.

Re: Shackle Flip Squeaks!!!

hey willys, did your shackle-flip brackets come with a little "off-road design" sticker on them? because mine did and in the instuctions it will tell you to put these stickers towards the front. mine dont squeek even with the old tore-up bushings. i still am not sure why i didnt change them when i had it apart...??? one more shoulda, coulda, woulda...

Yeah, mine have the stickers. And yeah I read that too. I'm just wondering in case mine do squeak, what Stephen has to say about it.

Re: Shackle Flip Squeaks!!!

did this start right after you installed your shackle flip? mine squeeking started about 2 weeks after. its very loud and is like a chirping kind of squeek if ya know what i mean. at first i thought i cracked m frame or the sound of frame stress or something liek that, but we figured out that it was just the pollyurethane bushings,

Re: Shackle Flip Squeaks!!!

Mine did the same thing, I grinded about 1/8th of an inch off of the shakle.
Works great.
