95\' 10 Bolt rear axle...any good?

Got a question...just picked up another 86 Suburban, all stock except for the rear axle. It is a 10 bolt with 6 lugs (9/16 dia. studs, much larger than the fronts) was said to be removed from a 95' 3/4 ton Silverado. It has a Auburn Locker and 4:56 gears. Is this axle worth the trouble and will it hold up. It just seems small but I have seen some newer 3/4 tons out there with the same axle.

<font color=green>If it's a 10 bolt it didn't come out of a 3/4 ton. the only 3/4 tons with 6 lug axles had the 14 bolt semifloater.

I dunno much about the newer trucks but if it is 3/4 ton do you suppose it is a dana 60 rear? That would have a 10 bolt cover wouldn't it and be more likely to be in a 3/4 ton

<font color=green>It would be highly unusual to have a 60 in a late model GM. Never seen it or heard of it except in some duallys.

that is kinda what I though but wasn't sure. I would think it is a 14SF if 6 lug in a 3/4 ton.

Yep. I think ALL 3/4 tons have 14SF in them.
Are you SURE it is a 10 bolt?
Or SURE it was 3/4 ton?

Well, from your bio looks like you don't plan on using that diff in another vehicle since you allready got a locked 14FF.

IMHO you'd be best off selling it to someone with a lighter vehicle and building another 14FF for the burban.. A 10bolt setup like that should be worth some coin to someone, maybe an IFS'er who's building a street queen with big tires... I'd imagine you'd be able to get enough outta that diff for a 14FF and a detroit.

Need to figure out what exactly the diff is first of course.

What size tires would you be running on this diff?? Hard trails?? Light wheeling??

Re: 95\' 10 Bolt rear axle...any good?

Back in the day, like mid 60's to 1972, you used to be able to get 6 lug, semi floating Dana 60's in the rear of heavy half tons. Rather rare, but can be found. I found 2 fully functional once, and passed on them. Stupid, stupid, stupid......

Some of the IFS 3/4 tons have 14FF's. You basically have to order the highest 3/4 ton GVWR package with the snowplow and towing packages. Very rare. 8 lug only of course.

I was referring to the GM trucks, but yeah, Ford did it to. 5x5.5" lug pattern of course. Not sure about Dodge.
