Rear brakes question

I tried to get the drum off my 10bolt the other day and it wouldn't come off. My haines book just said to spray some WD-40 and tap with a hammer at certain spots. I was doing more than tapping and had to stop before I damaged something, any ideas?

Re: Rear brakes question

are we having fun with drum brakes today? your shoes have worn a groove in the drum and they're holding it on. you'll have to loosen the star-wheel adjustor that you can see through the little slot in the backing plate. you need 2 flathead screwdrivers, one to push the pawl off the star and the other to rotate the star. i cant remember which direction to go, though it should be easier to loosen it than tighten. good luck, cuz drum brakes suck
