Weird TH350 Problem...
Anybody ever see this before???
I've got 1970 suburban with a 350 small block & TH350 tranny. It's mostly been sitting still for the last 6 months. I drove it about two weeks ago, everything worked fine. I went out and moved it earlier this week, and it didn't want to pull in any of the forward gears (D, L1, L2). When I say it didn't want to pull, I mean the rig moved forward on flat ground but didn't want to pull up hills. Felt A LOT like when a manual gearbox has a slipping clutch. Anyway, the kicker of it is that reverse worked fine. I didn't have time to mess with it then, so tonight I went out to see if I could figure out the problem. Now it doesn't even pull on flat ground. Reverse is still perfect, just no pull in the forward gears. I checked the fluid (ok), the vacuum lines, the linkage, the kickdown arm...all seem ok.
So, if anybody has any ideas, lets hear 'em. It doesn't strike me as it's a major problem, since I haven't put 10 miles on it in the last 6 months, and prior to that it drove great. Of course, I could be up a creek and the tranny could be gone, but It's hard to imagine the tranny breaking itself while it sat there.
Thanks for any ideas or possible solutions!
