np241 good or bad

I was just curious i was under my truck replacing some gaskets on my transfer case and i noticed that it is stamped that I have a Np241. Is this a pretty good transfer case or should i see about getting a different one like a 205 or somthing? I plan on making this a main offroader but I am not going to go any bigger than 33's for this will be mainly a trail rider. Any input would be appreciated

IMHO the 241 is a pretty good case. Has a very good low range (2.72:1 IIRC) and you can get a slip yoke eliminator kit for it. Its not as strong as the 205 but for what you said you'd be using your truck for, it should be plenty strong.

its a chain driven transfer case, similar in designer to a NP 208 but stronger

Re: np241 good or bad

keep a skidplate under it, and it'll be the last thing in your drivetrain to break.

And I can just install this on my transfer case? Have any of you done it and is it that hard of a job?

I plan on swapping one in for my 208. The slip yoke eliminator can be bought for about $250-300. You will then need a new driveline too. The skid plate usually bolts to the crossmember

That's not something you'll find at a parts store. Jesse at http://www.highangledriveline.com has prolly got the best kit out there.
