Hook\'n up the light in my Tach

Ok so I've got the tach hooked up, and here in a couple of days I'm gonna be outta high school for good! (Graduating on Friday the 17th!). So it'll be time for some work on the Chevy while my g/f is still in school (she's a JR). I desperatly need to re-route my power wires for my tach. They are still "rigged" from when I started the motor for the first time! Right now they are just going out through my door sill and under the hood to the distributor and battery. I've got wire loom, now I just need the time.

Ok so to my point. Where do I tap into a light connection? With my speedo dancing all the time I can't rely on it at night, and with no light I can't read the tach. I basically drive home at night by ear. So if someone could enlighten me on where to tap into for the light I'd highly appreciate it. Thanks

<font color=green>You want to put it into the illumination cicuit to the dash. You can either tap into the wire as it comes out of the light switch or where it goes into the wiring harness for the dash. The dimmer is probably the easiest place, to find out which it is whould be a simple task with a test light. Hit all of the contacts with the light, the one that you want is the one that is not hot when the lights are off but is hot when they are on, and dims as you turn the dimmer. Splice the wire for the tach light into that one and you're good to go.

<font color=green>Yeah, any illumination wire after the dimmer switch that goes to the dash will make the dimmer work on the tach too. Sometimes there is even an open slot in the fuse box that is intended for this sort of thing, usually labeled illum or dimmer or something.

I wired my tach into my head light switch. But that was to bright at night so I rewired it into my dimmer switch and like that better.
