Backfire After Accel./Throttle, Carb Related ??

I just put my newly rebuilt quadrajet on and everytime I throttle hard or accelerate fast and let off my truck backfires or "pops". It runs really strong and the secondaries open good. It also idles rough. I've checked for vacuum leaks but can't find any. What could this be? Could it be that I'm running too lean? Thanks for any help!

I think it's time to take a look at the spark plugs to see how it's running.

Got any exhaust leaks?

<font color=green>Seems to me that this may be timing related. Did you bump the distributor when you were changing the carb maybe? I'm not sure how spark plugs would make it backfire, but I think maybe wrath meant to just read them to determine if it's running rich or lean.

I just checked the plugs and they were pretty white so I must be running too lean. I checked the timing and I am still at 8 degrees BTDC at 700 RPM. I also made sure that my advance is hooked up to a ported vacuum. It is also dieseling when I shut it off. I think the guy put size 72 jets in with 50B primary rods, DB secondary rods, and F hanger. Maybe I'll go pick up a set of 73's tomorrow and see how that works. Would being lean cause the backfire from out of the tailpipes and the dieseling?
