shackle install

Folks

I have to replace the bent shackles for the rear of the front leaf springs on my 72 GMC K1500

It looks as simple as holding the frame up with jackstands and then supporting the leaf springs with a jack. Is it as simple as it looks?

Any sage advice that may keep me from killing myself during this operation would be appreciated.

Thanks for any help.

Re: shackle install

Cutting torch will help alot if those are original 72 shackles.. And a big Hammer..

Yep, put the frame on stands, and support the axle to remove the shackle...

There might be some bushing work involved too, but I'm not sure.. Someone else here will know.

Don't plan on it going easy, as it is my experience that nothing is with old trucks...

Sorry that wasn't much help, but its a start.
