What is the Clark 5 speed?

I was reading the service manual for my truck and I noticed the Clark 5 speed in the transmission section. What vehicle was it offered in, and did it have a transfer case mounted to it?
Thanks

Re: What is the Clark 5 speed?

From what I have read they were offerd in 1960's Med duty trucks. It is a popular retro for LD trucks as it hs a low forst gear, direct drive high gear. Better overall than say a mucie 4 sp. Splits are supposed to be better also for on road conditions.

Actually, many of them have a .80 overdrive 5th gear. So they are an alternative to an NV4500 swap.

those are big ones! found in 1 1/2 to 5 ton trucks. like the allisons and zfs. i think it's an upgrade from an nv4500.

I had thought the Clark 5 speeds were also put in 2.5 ton military trucks? Mudzilla probably has an answer to this.

Re: What is the Clark 5 speed?

Clark 5 speeds were put in everything under the sun. We have a dozen junkers with clarks in them, chevs , fords, macks, reos. They all have secondary boxes, and worked good according to my grandfather. Performance gear specializes in clark swaps.
