Knock, I forget the exact name. Not like as in rods. Diesel fuel ignites more slowly than gasoline. The fuel is forced into the combustion chamber near or at TDC. The fuel starts to burn, but doesnt completly burn until the piston is partially down in the cylinder, then it is ignited all at once, pressure increases quickly, and causes a knock. Its got alot to do wiht ignition lag and some other qualities of a diesel engine.
