fault codes

I got a obd2 tester yesterday, cool stuff! The trouble code that made my check light come on was P0327 (Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Low Input (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)). Does anyone know what this means and how to solve the problem???

Re: fault codes

the knock sensor retards ignition timing during spark knock to let the ECM hold max timing advance in most conditions.

test:

- connect timing light to vehicle and start the engine
- check that timing is correct before testing sensor
- if timing is correct, tap on the front of the engine block with a metal object while observing the timig to see if it retards
- if the timing does not retard, the knock sensor may be defective

if you need to replace it, use a water base caulk on the threads. do not use teflon tape because it'll insulate the sensor from the block.

btw, the sensors is right in front of the starter, on the engine block.

Re: fault codes

Hey Shorts, the obd2 tester gives a realtime readout for timing, can I use that instead of using a timing light???

Re: fault codes

i'd say so. the only thing you're looking for is whether the timing retards or not...it shouldn't matter how you're reading the timing.

just make sure you can read the scanner and tap on the block at he same time
