Vortec 454

Does anybody own or have experience in a 2000 model chevy fullsize with the vortec 454. I aquired one of these engines and put it in a 82 model K10. The project has just been finished and I am very disappointed with the power! GM specs call for 290 hp and 410 tq, but it doesn't seem to be there. Any questions, comments, or ideas on this condition? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Vortec 454

My dads got one in a 1998 suburban, with 4:10's, man its just pure grunt, it honks, I'd check the specs on your injecters and check the sensors and such, cause itsur has the power. Be aware also that a bigblock is all low end grunt, nothing over 4500 rpm, so it is no good for revving.

Soon to be 1976 chev K-30, 427,t400,203,D60F,14Br,4.56

Re: Vortec 454

weve got 2 one tone chevy at the yard that we use for delivery trucks, ones a 2000 the others a 98, both are gutles wether they have a load or are empty, thats even with low gearrs.the 2000 only has 1500 miles on it but doesnt pull anyharder than the 98 with 50k, Both have vortec bigblocks, I think they could both use a good exhaust and intake and that would wake them up
