Just out of curiosity what 455 is it Buick, Olds or Pontiac.

Take care of the pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves.

Sounds like junk to me, Maybe "Basic transportation"
but nothing you would want to sink any money into, and they have a way of sucking money

Re: Is a 455 worth it?

Buick 455's are good torque motors and light for thier displacement close in weight to a small block chevy.Even if you don't want it for your self it might be worth it to buy it to either resell or use as trade bait.

Take care of the pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves.

<font color=blue>Since it's only a only a C-note I'd say you could buy it, And make money off it selling it to the right person. I.E. Somebody restoreing a Buick, Maybe building a show car, who whould want that engine for that certain "look" and the coolness factor. For your truck I'd say it whould be much easier and cheeper in the long run, To just get a 454 to toss it in there, Since you seem to be wanting cubes and lot's of em'.

Re: Is a 455 worth it?

One of the guys at work puled a 455 out of his GTO to make way for the original 400. He went through an engine dealer, but moved it in less than a week for 800 bucks and it was a p.o.s.
I'd think about it... for only 100 bucks.

Re: Is a 455 worth it?

I know there are alot of guys in Drag Racing that are running 455 Pontiacs and have great luck with them. They are torque monsters and are great for pushing a heavy car but you have to run your rev limiter at 5000Rpm or you will run into problems. My uncle who has been in drag racing for almost 25 years thinks I should put a 455 into the puller. He says that the Pontiac is alot better down low than a BBC and is exactly what I need for the puller.
