285's will fit on a stock 2001 4x4 z71, but will 305's fit? A little bit of rubbing doesnt matter...

Yes, just make sure you run them on the stock 16x7 rims.

305's will fit but they are actually shorter & fatter then a 285 or 295 if you want height go w/ a 295.Not only that BFG dont make A 305.305's are all 305/70/16 & 295's are 295/75/16.

305/70R16 works out to about 33x12R16 and 285/75R16 is about 33x11.25R16. I've seen many of each size, and there was never a really appreciable difference. The 285's might have been a tenth of an inch taller. The 295/75R16 is a bit taller though, more like 33.25x11.5R16. The only problem I have with them is that no one makes them in a mud terrain tread.

My next tires will be a set of 285 or 305 mud terrains. Not sure whose or what tread yet.

ProComp. I hear good and bad things about their stuff though. Not to mention they want a mint for their tires.

Re: will 305\'s fit on stock z71 like the 285\'s will?

Actually the Pro Comps aren't too bad on price (except that new x-terrwhatever), when I bought mine they were about $10-15 cheaper per tire (pretty much paid for the mount and balance) than BFG's.
I haven't found any thing to complain about yet and I've used my M/T's in everything from Pacific NW trails to Texas mud and rocks with both a lifted Jeep and my current Blazer.
But then again, I also haven't had any mentionable problems with 4wheel parts either so maybe I'm special...

Go to procomptires.com & check out the tire conversion calculator it will show you exact height & widths of tires.305/70/16 will fall shorter than a 295 or 285.

Re: will 305\'s fit on stock z71 like the 285\'s will?

If you do the conversion from metric to standard size, the 285's and 305's are exactly the same height (32.8") with the 305's being 12" wide and the 285's being only 11.2". Again, this is theoretical as the actual size of the tires always varies from company to company.
I have seen two Z-71 pickups with 305/70R16's (one was Goodyear Wrangler MT's, the other was AT/S's), and both were mounted on the stock rims. The one with the MT's definitely rubbed when doing some light four wheeling and mudding. He cranked the t-bars up a little but I haven't talked to him since to see if that gave the needed clearance. In any case, the 305's are a really tight fit. I drove the one with the AT/S's for a short period on the street only and didn't notice any rubbing, but they definitely looked like a tight fit.

Re: will 305\'s fit on stock z71 like the 285\'s will?

Manufacturor's specs are usually a bit "optimistic". They like to exagerate things some to make their tires sound better. The real thing when it's mounted on your truck is what matters, and most 285's are the same size, if not just a hair taller than, most 305's. 295's are like a half inch taller or so. Still nothing great, a total gain in ground clearance of about a quarter inch. Realistically it's up to you. Wide or narrow tire? The gain or loss of ground clearance between 285 and 305 is so minimal you won't ever notice the difference when you're out playing trucks.
