how do i tell ring gear size

i went to a napa place to get some bearings/bushings for the rear axle 10 bolt, but the guy said there are 4? different ring gear sizes in those axles and he needs to know which one.
the problem is that the metal plate that was to be mounted on the axle is missing in action, or i just can't find it. is there any other way to tell the size besides taking the cover off? i have a 94 gmc K1500 it it makes a difference.

Will work for mods

Current mods--> 31x10.5x15 ProComp MT, 15x8 AR767 rims, K&N, MSD Ignition Coil.

Re: how do i tell ring gear size

I think you have the 8.5 inch Ring gear on yours.
I was looking at the CK5 Axle ID Chart at

Re: how do i tell ring gear size

The 10 bolt does indeed sport that 8.5" gear but I think he's referring to gear ratio. You can:

Check the code in your glove box(not reliable if you're not the first owner)

Raise the rearend of the vehicle and count the number of driveshaft revolutions per one wheel revolution(more reliable)

Pull the diff cover off and look for the number stamped on the gear(most reliable)
