Speedo is Fixed....WOW!!!!

Well, yesterday I made a post about how my speedo wasn't working and I ripped the whole truck apart trying to find the problem. Thanks to shorts giving me the diagram of the Vehical Speed Buffer I was able to find that it was shot when I tested it with the continuity tester. So I went down to the wreckers and wasn't able to find one for a 4x4 but I did get one off a 2wd.

Anyway, after installing it somehow the truck seems to have more pickup down low and up top. The speedo is now off by 15kph (9mph) which isn't a big deal for me because thats exactly what you can be over up here before you get a ticket so as long as I am doing the posted limit "on the speedo" then I won't be in trouble.

The thing that really suprised me though was top speed. When I had the stock 265's I could do 160kph(100Mph) right on. Once I went to the 285's I could only do 155kph. But now after putting in the 2wd buffer I can get it up to 175Kph(110mph)!!!

Now just for you all to know....I never ever drive that fast exept for today when I wanted to see what it would do and it really surpised me. Going that fast in a full size gets a little scary!!!!

The truck you probably pulled the buffer from prob. had diff. gears in the rear than yours. Thats why it's diff.

Re: Speedo is Fixed....WOW!!!!

Almost all 4X4 chevys with EFI had a governor limiting them to 100 miles per hour(mine does and so did a 96 i drove). I would guess the 2WD's would be different.

pics of the V30 which is still for sale or possible trade.

No, all the 2wd's have the limiter for the same years at 100mph. I think Jason is right now. The 2wd had different gears and way smaller tires. I am probably going to have to get a buffer though thats right for the truck or I am going to start getting into preformance problems with the trany and motor and stuff like that.

Re: Speedo is Fixed....WOW!!!!

yeah my 2wd tahoe cuts out at 99 with stock 235/75/r15s and 3.42 gears. the tire size diff. alone will do that. Your engine is reving higher than nortmal because it thinks it has bigginer tires, putting you in a higher torque band. The engine should be fine, but only you know your transmision. Your also burning more gas so you'll prolly take a mpg hit too.

Re: Speedo is Fixed....WOW!!!!

Everything seems to be fine with it now. Gas millage wise its the same as it was before if I do the math and figure out that for every 100K on the odometer its actually 116Km's.

I am going to go and search the wrecking yards up here for a 4x4 buffer out of a truck that had 3:43's. That way I can get the speedo back to normal incase I want to sell it.
