I\'m back/computer woes
Thanks for all the responses when I asked about the real world towing capacity of my 95 K1500 a week or so ago. I'll pass on a little computer info that will hopefully help avoid some expense for someone. We live in a rural area and it is not uncommon for us to have power surges and/or outages so I have always used a good surge protector on the PC. Our computer was on but unattended during an outage recently and when the power came back on it was at a lower voltage than normal for some amount of time. It turns out that the switching power supplies they use in PCs REALLY DON'T LIKE LOW INPUT VOLTAGES. They may supply horrendously high noise spikes on the DC outputs with low input voltage. Everything in the box got cooked, drives, mother board, processor, memory, everything. Fortunately the homeowners insurance covered it minus the deductable. We now have an inexpensive battery back up ($80) that will give us a chance to shut things down if we loose power. And I thought vehicles could be a pain! Just think, now we have combined both worlds!!
