engine trouble

I have a slight problem with my 383. It's smoking worse than I do. Blue smoke, which tells me it's oil. It smokes out both pipes, and every plug is wet with oil. Anybody have any ideas? I ran a compression test and all are within 10 psi of 195 psi. I don't think its rings. And I don't think all of the valve seals started leaking at the same time. Engine was running fine until I drove it from the shop to my house (about 20 miles). Half way there it started smoking...need some help here!!!

Take this with a grain of salt, but...
Seems like somewhere I read that your intake could be loose. Check the bolts that connect the intake to the block/heads.

How many miles is on it? Heat the engine up. Then check the compression. Then take the gauge out of the hole and shoot in some motor oil. Use one of those little pump cans and try to squirt it to the oppisite side of the cylinder wall so it will run down and coat the entire ring top. Give it a minuite or so to settle. Then check the compession again. If there is a major increase in compression (I am sure somebody here could tell you how much), the rings are not sealing good in the cylinder. However, I would think this would only test the top compression ring. I would rationilize that if the oil rings failed and the top ring was good, the compression would not be affected. I am not sure if this is a likely scernio or not. However this test is a good place to start. I am sure there is someone who can tell you better. Good luck.

Thanks, The guy that did all the machine work seems to think that it's an intake problem. The engine has about 2000 miles on it. I just don't want to spent $200.00 on a new intake if that's not the problem. I plan to do a leak down test next, just need to find someone with a leak down tester.
