A/C noise, rattle pinging sound

My A/C has been pinging and making that horribly embarassing noise for like a month now. I finally took the serp. belt off today and shot the little pulley system with white lithium grease, was this a good move or will that come back and kick me in the butt someday and totally ruin my A/C stuff. It did get rid of the pinging sound though....

well, if greasing the clutch assembly seemed to get rid of the noise, then you can definately go get a new clutch, w/out the compressor, and replace the one you got. Thats assuming your compressor is still good. You can have you AC system tested for pretty cheap too.

how much for a clutch? and how does that darn thing come off, I was planning on taking it off and getting a new one but i couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get it off, so i just greased it. my a/c still works fine, blowin ice cold and everything, it was just pinging.

acutally, I'm not sure. You have an r12 AC system so it might be a little different. The one for my r134 compressor list under $150 (I think).

But to remove, its a pain. You need a special compressor vise clamp, in addition to a(J34992) Compressor Holding Fixture and a (J33013-B) Clutch Plate and Hub Assembly Installer-Remover. PITA.

Like I said, the AC System is a pain, not to mention potentially dangerous to work on. If you can afford it, stop by a shop and get a quote!

My '94 has 134a. At least thats what it says on the part by the firewall.

I don't know if it something that got changed mid year or not. I do know that mine was one of the last made that year
