25\" shorter crewcab

I am thinking of doing something to my truck like u2slow's(Kevin) crewcab. His truck is missing 14 inches of frame rail behing the cab and fits a standard shortbed. I was thinking of losing the bed completely and cutting out 14 inches like Kevin's but then also cutting 11 inches behind the rear spring hangers. I would then make a flat bed to mount on the rear. I also want to do something i have seen once before. Make the crew a convertable. I have a friend who would help and make it to where i can put it back on. I would buy a second set of doors(there is a burb with all 4 and the same paint job at a local wrecking yard) and cut them down for half doors(probably notched to seat level). I would install a 34 gall sub tank behind the rear axle between the frame rails with a good skid plate on it and build a cage for the cab and a canvas soft top to cover the front and back seats. Any body think this would work? I think i could do it over the next year or two and have a rather original truck.

Re: 25\" shorter crewcab

Sure. Cut down the wheelbase and overhang and you got it. Could you use a LWB reg cab frame to do this instead of chopping it? Just for the structural integrety. The top part does sound very interesting also. For yours, could you modify the top of an first gen k5 to use, or use the soft top meant for it. Hmmm. I though of doing that to mine, and using weather stripping with a canvas top. I think, I'll just get a sun roof and bob the end. Cool. Keep me updated.

I could, but i don't feel like transplanting everything. And it is not that easy to find a one ton frame just lying around. I think the body mounts are in different places also.
