285\'s or 33\'s

I was talking to the tire guy about 285's or 33's on my stock 96' chevy and he said that they don't fit! I know that some of you are fitting them, so what is the trick? How bad will they rub during max articulation?

Re: 285\'s or 33\'s

width is the limiting factor on our trucks. do a search on tire sizes and such....there's gobs and gobs of info and explanations on wheels and tires.

Re: 285\'s or 33\'s

I just installed 285's on my stock 99 Z-71 and they have not rubbed at all yet. I have made some turns trying to get them to rub...no rubbing. I was told the same thing you were. Everyone here told me they would fit. Discount tire told me they would fit and they do.

Re: 285\'s or 33\'s

some people decide to cut their fenders a little to fit the 285's or 33's. A friend of mine installed 33's on American Racing Outlaws. He cut about 1.5" out of the fender. You can fit 285's on a stock tire, if that is what you are looking for and they will not rub.

Re: 285\'s or 33\'s

Interesting, it read 21 1/2 inches on the right side, and 20 1/2 inches on the left.....maybe that is because my tires are turned slightly right now. i'll measure again later, why do you ask?

Re: 285\'s or 33\'s

The drivers side is almost always a little higher

And 285's (11.2 X 32.8) will fit without rubbing,
but 33 X 12.5" will rub, thats because they are nearly 1.5" wider
