Re: 305 to 454 swap

while it would be fun, you'd need to prepare your tranny(4L60E) to handle such muscle. 454s come in 2500s, which have the 4L80E(in newer models of course). also, you need to make sure your suspension is tough enough. another thing is make sure you have the proper cooling system to keep the 454 in check. there's a big difference in cooling needs from 305 to 454. i don't know about new motor mounts, but always a possibility.

as you stated, you'd need to get your computer adjusted.

Re: 305 to 454 swap

look into how the 454 supersprts are setup Ill bet you can get hose motor mounts and also see how the tranny and susp are set up

its very doable

Re: 305 to 454 swap

Talk to anyone you can about the potential cooling problems. My one ton 454 with 3" lift runs at 230 on the highway and up to 245 in traffic with A/C or pulling a load. Max operating temp is 260 but it buggs me to be that close. I've tried everything I can think of but it just likes to stay warm...

P.S. The power is awesome, it really smokes 'em!

Re: 305 to 454 swap

my V30 with a tbi 454 only runs around 175-180 with a 4 core and 180 degree stat. i have 4:10 gearing and 38's and it isn't exactly a light weight vehicle. i live in el paso so it isn't that cool here during the summer either(close to 100 daily). jlstapp you might need to flush your cooling system and install a lower temp stat.

Re: 305 to 454 swap

Fuel pumps are the same for 350tbi and 454tbi. The computer is the same, but the chip is different. You could just get an aftermarket chip burned to bring the system up to date.
