Re: Best sand tires

Anything fat and wide that will float. Also anything that can be aired down to almost nothing. I ran 3-4 psi in my 31X10.50/15 BFG all terrain's on 15x6 rims(on a compact truck). This is not a good setup for street since the tires bow a lot, but i never broke a bead even when jumping and i jumped a lot.

Re: Best sand tires

I have a set of Cooper Discoverer STT's (similar to old style BFG M/T), and I like 'em in sand a lot. I can take my S truck places on the MI dunes in 2wd with these tires that I used to have trouble going in 4wd with the old a/t style tires...

Re: Best sand tires

I second what Tim said!!! I run my Cooper STTs (35x12.5x15) at Pismo w/no problems at all. I have yet to get stuck in 'em. Run 'em around 15psi in the front and 10psi in the rear...

Re: Best sand tires

desertrat, just wondering if you discovered that like how I discovered HMMWV's are bad at Baja'ing. Guess not.

Re: Best sand tires

AJM, I found that out too. I drove one down a sandy tank trail at speed and quickly got bounce all over the place. think i would have broke something if i would have kept going. Or broke me. Those trucks ride too damn hard.

Re: Best sand tires

Mine involved me, 2 other Marines, a soft top pickup model, and a big sand tank berm in 29 Palms. We went at it at high speed (45mph with a HMMWV). Front went up and over.......we're going to make it.................THWUMP!!!!! Nevermind, we're stuck. I think the front tires might have left the ground. We were as high centered as you could get. We were all ready to be privates again, when some Army Rangers stumbled across us and winched us off. They laughed, we thanked them, and then drove home and forgot to tell anyone we worked with about it.
