Re: Air Compressor

try pulling the puley off and see if theres any way to press the bearing out or pull it out, seems there should be some way to get it. ounce its out take it to any parts store and they should have a replacement bearing for a couple bucks.

Im not 100% sure it is doable but its worth a shot to save a few bucks.

Re: Air Compressor

On my '97 'Hoe, the pulley and compressor don't seem like they can be separated.
I pray, for your wallets' sake, that TheKids' suggestion works - new compressor from the dealer is $700 - before install. Its gonna cost you $1000 for them to replace the compressor and accumulator labor

You can get a reman'd compressor for like $380, and a new accumulator for under $200. Take the truck to an A/C shop once the parts are bolted on.

EDIT: Try one of those $40 r134a kits at any of the parts store, the one with the gauges. If your system isn't charged to high you might be able to get away with just adding some oil recharge (comes with the kit).

Re: Air Compressor

The pulley is a electric clutch. You can buy just the clutch. I have no clue how to put one on. If you think that will fix it it would be cheaper than new compressor.

Re: Air Compressor

I thought he just has a bearing thats going bad, Gm got the bearing on there so id think you can get it off to replace it.

theres no way itd spend up 1000 for all that stuff. ID go to the salvage yards all over and find the parts you needed, man thats almost the cost of a crate motor, theres gota be a better way out.

good luck

Re: Air Compressor

Frank is right, you can just purchase the clutch separately. That would be the most cost effective solution.
