trans & xfer case options

I have an 85 3/4T 4WD suburban with a 350turbo and 208 xfer case. I would like to swap to a 700R4 because of the overdrive. Do I need to get a 700R4 from a 4WD or will any 700R4 work? Will it mate up to the 208 xfer case?

Also which manual 5sp overdrive trans & xfer case combo will work on this truck? my Suburban came from the factory with a 4sp manual and the previous owner swaped it for a 350turbo trans.

Thanks- Louis

My 'Burban came from the factory with a 700R4/NP208. You shouldn't have too much trouble putting them together. At worst, you may have to swap input/output shafts (getting out of my knowledge base)...

Re: trans & xfer case options

I could sell you a 208 case that hooks to a 700 R4!

If interested, let me know!

Re: trans & xfer case options

A TH700 will spline into your transfer case. You will need the factory TH700 adapter though since the output is a different length.

A 5-speed will require a 32-spline input gear on the 208. Since the 4-speed used the 32-spline input as well, it must have been swapped over to 27-spline when the TH350 was put in.
