gears in 44 carrier

i have a dana 44 with 307 gears (junk) can you put low gears in the carrier? someone told me you need a 373 or lower to fit lower gears in.

the carrier is the same. you can put up to (i think) 4.88s in there. depending on what tires you have you prob want either 3.73 (for 33s), 4.10 (for 35s) or 4.56 (for bigger than 35)

For the D44 the carrier breaks are.
3:73 down/3:92 up.
So with the carrier that you have, 3:73 is the limit.
You could use 4:10 gears and the same carrier but you would need a thick ring gear.
