brakes (97 Z71 1/2 ton 4WD)

yeah i had a problem with my brakes and i was hoping some of you chevy guru's could help me with. When i use my brakes the pedal almost touches the floor and my pads and shoes are fine. plenty of wear left on them. when i pump the brakes it does have a little more breaking power does this sound like it could be the master cylinder? any help would be appreciated

check for any leaking at the master cylinder or any lines going to the brakes, if theres a slight leak somwhere the brakes wont hold pressure.
did you just change the fluid in them or anything?

if you havent done anything and there arent any leaks then it would probably be the master cylinder.

also check that none of the bleeder valves have come loose on the calipers. if they did come loose thy would be sucking in air and proably leaking.

does it go to the floor right away or while you are holding it, it slowly goes down? mine would slowly go down (like when im sitting at a stop light) and it was a bad master cylinder. i almost hit a car at mickeyDs when my truck was rolling with pedal to the floor i replaced it that afternoon!

there are no leaks because i have often checked the resevoir and the level has never changed so i guess that it has to be the master cylinder. thanks for the help

Had same problem. Changed master cylinder. Solved problem. Get a quality part an do the job once. This is one of those parts you want to consider getting from GM.
