2.73\'s ?

If a truck is doing 65mph with 35" tires and is turning 2500rpm's, then what gears would you think it has? 4.11's maybe? The calc. chart I have says so. But a buddy and I pulled the cover off this evening and found 2.73's. (41 divided by 15) Now what? Is my tack wrong? I just put a VDO in it a week ago and yes its set for a V8. What could the possibles be? I don't know were to start. Any info would help! Thanks.

Do you have an OD tranny, or a manual tranny? Those will throw off the tables, they all seem to be made for a non OD automatic transmission equiped vehicle.

Re: 2.73\'s ?

Is the speedometer calobrated for 35's and 2.73's? if it is calibrated for stock tires that could be the problem.

Re: 2.73\'s ?

I'm with tanbuddy, the speedo is probably calibrated for stock tires. At 2500rpm, 65mph and 35" tires I get 3.73 gears. With 2.73's you should be turning only 1800rpm at 65mph.

Re: 2.73\'s ?

two other things,

Did you check the RPM while coasting to eliminate torque converter slippage?

Measure the tires. I bet they are closer to 33" on the truck.

GET RID OF THOSE 2.73's!!!!

Hit? Them tires rub. Rubbin's off roadin.

Re: 2.73\'s ?

Forget the speedometer, it has'nt worked since I bought the truck. I was behind the wife in her new caravan(with stock tire size)when I checked it. Whats this about checking the RPM's wial coasting to see if the torque converter is slipping? How is that done (besides taking my foot off the gas)? Let me give all info to you so your not guessing at my set up. Starts out with 454,2000 stall converter,TH350 tranny, 208 T-case(stock I think),10 bolt 1/2 ton axles with 2.73 gears. I just measured the tires (someone shaved my tread off)and there 32 and 3/4". HELP!!!
