94 vortec v6 woes

Hello my chevy friends. My fathers 1994 Jimmy has been idleing wierd lately and sometime will die when you give it gas right after starting it. Almost like its flooding. Then after running for awhile it will act alright. Yesterday when he drove away it blew white smoke out pretty badly then stopped today it didnt do it. It also has a gas smell to it sometimes like its not burning completely. I am used to my TBI engine so I am not sure what the cause could be. ANy tips would be greatly appreciated.

Try the PCV valve. Sounds like its stuck. If that doesn't fix it, do the normal tune up / sensors route. Check to make sure the coolant level isn't getting lower. If it is, dad may need a head gasket.
